Digital Lab Background

The Digital Lab is responsible for leading digital transformation within WSP Canada by providing full end-to-end design and development capabilities across the enterprise. We are a dedicated team that explores specific areas of interest during a defined time and space. We quickly build and test products while working with a wide-variety of open source and commercial technologies. The Opportunity:

WSP is looking for a Full-Stack Web Developer Intern that is passionate about creating tools and applications for WSP engineers and our clients. We are looking for someone with software engineering skills, who is hungry to learn and is comfortable communicating their ideas and receiving feedback from our team. You will be responsible for helping design and development new features and fixing bugs of our current roster of products as well as new products from the ground up.

A day in the life:

  • Creating front-end interfaces that are modern and intuitive
  • Creating server-side logic and databases to handle user actions
  • Building reusable code and libraries for future use
  • Optimization of the application for maximum speed and scalability
  • Design and implementation of data storage solutions
  • Support and improve existing tools
  • Keep current with new advances of web frameworks and identify what new tools can be applied

What you'll bring to WSP ...

Required:

  • Knowledge of front-end technologies such as JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Experience with a front-end framework such as Vue, React, or Angular (or others)
  • Experience creating databases that represent and simplify business processes
  • Knowledge of a back-end programming language such as Python or C#

Nice to have:

  • Understanding accessibility and security for user authentication and authorization between multiple systems, servers, and environments
  • Experience with Cloud platform technologies including Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, AWS
  • Experience with SQL databases such as MS SQL Server
  • Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB
    • Familiar with .Net framework
  • Implementing automated testing platforms and unit tests
  • Experience with version/source control practices and tooling (GitHub, Azure DevOps, etc.)
  • Familiar with the Agile Development process
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
